Jess and Chris had decided to get married at the back end of winter in one of the most rain soaked areas of the UK; the Bodmin Moor. I do like a challenge…
During the venue visit a few month before hand the weather was as you would expect it… grey and wet.
This all might sound like a bad thing, but it turned out to be perfect. The weather was never awful; it was grey and sometimes drizzly but that made for some great shots in umbrellas and the sky was consistently moody making for some incredibly dramatic shots.
I had made sure that both of them had sturdy wellies (which was easy when they both lived in Cornwall) and they were more than happy to go for a bit of a walk around the boggy moor to get the photos that would last a lifetime.
A nice little bonus was that I had actually known Jess and Chris for quite some time and I knew that they were going to be up for a having some fun with their photos. Every shoot I do is always made easier when I have a good rapport with anyone I am shooting which is why those initial wedding meetings are so important. I don’t want to be a stranger to you on a day you should be looking out and not seeing anyone you don’t recognise. With Jess and Chris that rapport had been built over quite a few years so we were both comfortable enough to try out some great photos and they all turned out fantastic.
It’s always fun to play around with the environment you are presented with when taking wedding photos. Never underestimate the value of a grey sky!
