Georgie & James were getting married at Squirrel Wood Farm in Kent. I had never shot here before so I did my research before going for the venue visit. I saw some of the shots previous photographers had taken, checked the website so see how they usually ran the day. It all looked great!
The venue visit was in late February. I usually visit the venue a little closer to the time of the wedding but everyones schedules just couldn’t line up so I joined them on one of their walk arounds with the owner.
It was raining.
It was raining a lot.
And Squirrel Wood is basically an enormous field surrounded by woodland.
It is not a winter wedding venue.
As a photographer you always think of back ups for weather. Especially in the UK. You never know what you are going to be presented with. At Squirrel Wood there were no back ups. There was no where you would be able to go if it rained. And to do a venue visit, to a place with no back ups, as it is THROWING it down does not put any fears to rest.
As it came closer to the day and weather reports become more accurate it looked as though we were going to be okay.
What happened was the most incredibly summers day you could have ever hoped for.
Tents had been set up for guests to stay in. A bonfire was being built. Lawn games were being placed out. A cricket pitch was being lined up! It was incredible.
Georgie & James were obviously over the moon and their joy came through in all of their wedding photos. Clear blue skies can often do that to a mood.
